Why now

The data finally exists. It's just not usable.

The Transparency in Coverage rule (2022) requires every commercial health plan to publish negotiated rates. The Hospital Price Transparency rule (2021) requires every facility to publish standard charges. The data is there — terabytes of it, updated monthly.
